MIXED EMOTIONS: Northwood get first result but squander lead

Published on: 26th August 2019   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Northwood F.C

Northwood FC had to settle for their first point of the season instead of three as they let a 2-0 lead slip.

Woods took on Bracknell Town at The AcreTweed stadium today (Monday, August 26) having lost their first three games in The Isthmian League.

It couldn’t have been a more positive start for Northwood, who gave themselves a two goal advantage within 11 minutes.

Charlie Hayward got his first goal for the club in the eighth minute with a clever finish from the righthand side.

Their lead was doubled just three minutes later courtesy of Lucan, who was played through by Luke Holness.

Bracknell were taking the game to Northwood in an end-to-end half, but the home side was resilient. That is until the 42nd minute when Nathan Minhas scored to make it 2-1.

Northwood continued to hold a lead well into the second half but Bracknell broke them down again in the 75th minute, with a goal that had been coming for some time. Max Herbert’s right wing cross was nodded in by Dan Carr for the equalizer.

The Woods players squandered a couple of decent chances to regain the lead towards the closing minutes of the game, not capitalising on six minutes of stoppage time. In the end, it was a fair result and a hard-earned point, but one that may have left Northwood players with a slightly bitter taste in their mouths.
