Primary school children from Bushey raised more than £1,000 for their school by running the Mini London Marathon on April 20.

Friends of Bushey Heath Primary School, a parent/carer-run organisation, have been raising funds for a new design and technology workshop for the school. As part of their fundraising efforts, the Friends successfully applied for 10 slots in the Mini London Marathon ballot, which were then taken up by pupils from Year 2 up to Year 5.

To get ready for race day, the children trained on the Bushey junior parkrun course at King George Recreation Ground.

The mini marathon takes place the day before the London Marathon and invites children to run a mile of the iconic course.

The pupils raised more than £1,300 and felt “a real sense of achievement and pride”.

Penny Barefoot, headteacher at Bushey Heath Primary School, said: “Their dedication and hard work exemplify the spirit of our vibrant school community. Thanks to their efforts, we are even closer to bringing to life our ambitious plans to build a state-of-the-art design technology facility.”
