Mindless vandals who tried to steal a defibrillator in Abbots Langley were thwarted by staff from a shop in the village.
When youths smashed the cabinet containing the defibrillator outside Tanners Wood Hall on March 29, they dropped the equipment after they were challenged by staff from the Lighthouse Fish and Chip Shop.
A spokesman for Abbots Langley Parish Council, who provided the defibrillator, said they were grateful to the Lighthouse staff.
He said: “This is life-saving vital equipment and this mindless vandalism puts lives at risk. We are grateful to staff at the fish and chip shop who reported this to the police and kept the defibrillator.”
The damage to the cabinet will cost £300 to repair.
