MET LINE: Train service criticised for being ‘utterly ridiculous’

An Amersham resident has criticised frequent delays on the Metropolitan line.

Sharing her thoughts on social media, the concerned commuter, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “Is anyone else finding the early morning Met service is getting utterly ridiculous? I can’t see the point of having a timetable if they don’t stick to it!”

The resident’s thoughts were met by a chorus of agreement from frustrated Amersham locals.

One replied: “Coming back from Aldgate has become a game of blind poker. Lots of trains change destination mid-journey.”

Echoing this latter concern, another added: “When you do get on a train, they [often] then change it from a fast to a slow one, or decide it will stop at Harrow-on-the-Hill and you have to get off. Then they don’t tell you which platform it will go from and the electronic board hasn’t worked for years.”

Naomi Smith, head of customer operations for the Metropolitan line, said: “We apologise for any disruption customers have recently experienced on the Metropolitan line. Late changes to destinations are made only when absolutely necessary.”

Explaining that disruption is largely caused by a lack of train drivers, asset failures, or incidents elsewhere on the line, she added: “Training new Tube drivers takes months, but driver numbers on the line will increase in the coming weeks as training finishes.

“Upcoming improvements to the line, as well as the introduction of newly qualified drivers, will improve the experience our customers have on the line and we will continue to do all we can to ensure it operates as our customers expect.”
