Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision on the M1, south of Watford.

The incident involving three vehicles, a white Citroen Berlingo van, a grey Jeep Avenger, and a white Peugeot Expert van, occurred on the M1 southbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 4 at 6.52pm on Wednesday (July 9).

Police attended the scene along with colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service.

The driver of the Jeep Avenger, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, aged in his 20s, sustained serious injuries which are not deemed to be life-threatening.

One driver, a 53-year-old man from London, was arrested at the scene for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is in police custody.

Sergeant Luke Morley, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “As part of our investigations, I am appealing to anyone who either witnessed the collision or was driving in the area at the time of the incident to please contact police.

“If you have any additional information or dashcam footage, this could assist with our investigation.”

If you have dash cam footage in relation to the collision, please upload this at herts.police.uk/dashcamupload
