MENTAL HEALTH: NLP4Kids supports children cope with emotions during pandemic

Published on: 22nd February 2021   |   By: Amneet Kaur   |   Category: Uncategorized

Practitioners at NLP4Kids have been supporting more and more children during the pandemic to cope with anxiety, anger issues and anything related to their mental wellbeing.

The Hemel Hempstead based company provides mental health services to children and it is based in the Old Town.

Director Gemma Bailey said she has seen an increase in calls since lockdown started.

She mentioned: “There’s been a spike because of lockdown. It comes from a place of frustration, people can’t go out and see friends, so their social skills are suffering. Some are finding it a very lonely experience, for some it is the change of routine which is causing the problems.

“We have been getting many calls because there’s been an extra strain on the more traditional services such as those provided by the NHS.

“We now have 300 more calls than we did this time last year. We have been working with people mainly on Zoom, giving one to one sessions.

“Within about five to eight sessions we are able to give children the tools and strategies they need to have more control over their emotions and a better mental attitude towards things.

“A lot of what we do is around helping children be in control of what’s happening to them and help them make better decisions.”
