MEMORY HELP: New support sessions for families living with dementia in Garston

Published on: 6th April 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A set of support sessions for those suffering with dementia and their loved ones has been launched, with the first event taking place at the Meriden Community Centre.

The new Watford Memory Support Centre initiative, a joint effort from both Watford Borough Council and Hertfordshire Partnership Foundation Trust, aims to make the town more dementia friendly.

At the sessions, the first of which occurred on Monday, March 21, those recently diagnosed with the condition can get information and support from various organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society and the NHS to help them.

Each set of sessions with include four informal meetups, which will allow attendees to meet up with others going through the same situation and access their information they need to live with dementia.

Rosie, who attended the first sessions and supports her mum who lives with Dementia, said, “I’m so glad I attended and hope I will get to come to other sessions or groups with my mum. I left feeling less stressed about how to approach some of the difficult days.”

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said of the sessions: “The Watford Memory Centre will provide essential support to those who have newly diagnosed with dementia and their families, not only with the specialist advice but by showing them they are not alone.”

For those interested in booking a place on any future sessions, please get in touch with Hannah Foster by calling 07884 185281 or by emailing Hannah.foster@watford.gov.uk.
