MEDIA MATTERS: Croxley utility box removed after resident criticises ‘dangerous’ placement

Published on: 9th February 2023   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Croxley resident’s campaign against the “dangerous” placement of a utility box has ended in victory, after the offending item was removed almost as quickly as it was installed.

Karl Deimbacher noticed the green box in Dickinson Square, installed by Virgin Media and Instalcom, on January 12.

Speaking to CROXLEYnews, Karl said: “The cabinet was totally invisible to people coming from the Dickinson Avenue direction, until they turned the corner, by which time they’d tripped over it.

“It was clearly dangerous to walkers, children on bikes or scooters, or anybody in some form of mobility scooter.

“This danger was of course amplified at night, especially after 12pm when the streetlights are turned off.”

Karl spoke to a Virgin Media installer, who told him a manager would come and speak to him. Though a meeting couldn’t be arranged, the installer allegedly told Carl he agreed that the box was in an unsuitable place and would be moved.

The green box has now been removed.

Virgin Media has been contacted for comment.
