MAYORAL MEMORIES: Former Tring Mayor reflects on year of serving the community

Published on: 15th June 2024   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

As former Mayor of Tring councillor Nigel Nutkins passes on his mayoral chain, TRINGnews spoke to him about his year in office.

Cllr Nutkins has been a firm pillar in the Tring community over the last year, from taking part in a charity motorbike ride through the town, to opening various new businesses, to visiting members of the community.

A year later, cllr Nutkins is passing on the role to councillor Brian Patterson, who will be assisted by Deputy Mayor councillor Paul de Koning.

Cllr Nutkins said: “In some ways, it is a bit of a relief, as wearing the chain is quite something. It signifies something important and having the responsibility of representing Tring is huge.

“But at the same time, it was such a privilege. Meeting people from the community, it is clear that they are just generally happy to have someone representing them.”

One of cllr Nutkins’ favourite memories during his tenure was visiting The Collett School in Hemel Hempstead, which supports children with special educational needs. He said the visit was an eye-opening experience.

When asked if he had any words of wisdom to share with the new Mayor, cllr Nutkins said: “Just be there and be seen. Learn what these fantastic people do and see the clubs and the organisations around the community.

“There are some fantastic people in the town, who work tirelessly and are very passionate about what they do. It’s all about being positive and bringing all these people together.”

Cllr Nutkins says that he will now be focusing on his work as a councillor, and will use his small amount of free time to carry out some more DIY jobs around the house.
