Mayoral candidate calls for better CCTV use

Published on: 20th February 2018   |   By: Jason Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

George Jabbour would like CCTV cameras to be used more effectively to catch offenders and to help tackle anti-social behaviour and reduce crime.

The Conservatives candidate for Mayor of Watford believes that “stricter enforcement provides a robust deterrent to unacceptable behaviour”.

Mr Jabbour has had personal experience of seeing CCTV footage used to secure justice for a victim.  He received a Certificate of Commendation for his “public spirited action” as a result of his intervention when a crime was taking place on a public bus.

He said: “I did what anyone else would have done had they been in my position.  Thankfully, there were CCTV cameras fitted on the bus, recording the incident.  The footage was instrumental in convicting the perpetrator and bringing justice to the victim.”

Mr Jabbour added: “Whether it is a business, an organisations or a local resident, by working together as a community and applying the proper regulations, we can make the most of current technology to proactively help the police at the same time as respecting privacy and data protection laws.”

“While CCTV will not solve every case and catch every culprit, it is a key ingredient in the fight against criminal and anti-social behaviour.”
