MAX HART: Radlett boy qualifies for regional finals a year after joining swim club

Published on: 23rd February 2024   |   By: Sophia Sheera   |   Category: Uncategorized

Just a year after joining his local swimming club, 10-year-old Max Hart is one of the fastest swimmers in Hertfordshire for his age group.

Max, who is in Year 5 at Newberries Primary School in Radlett, only started swimming after recovering from breaking both of his arms in late 2022, which rendered contact sport temporarily off-limits. His mum, Lucy, took Max to Verulam Swim Club in February 2023, and by May that year Max had begun competing in local tournaments.

He also participated in his school’s swimming gala and won gold in all five races.

Then, at the county championships, the young athlete took home a silver and bronze, and also achieved a qualifying time in 200m backstroke for the regional championships in Norwich in May.

Lucy said: “He’s always trying to beat his times and now he’s got his heart set on nationals.

“We’re just over the moon that he’s qualified for the regionals – you have to be one of the fastest swimmers in Hertfordshire to get in!”
