DISAPPOINTING DEVELOPMENT: Watford MP and Mayor say move to Tier 3 necessary

Published on: 14th December 2020   |   By: Tim Green   |   Category: Uncategorized

The MP for Watford and the town’s Mayor say the move for the town from Tier 2 to 3 is disappointing but necessary.

Dean Russell MP said he believed the move was necessary but acknowledged it is disappointing news for many, especially hospitality venues.

He said: “It is disappointing that both Watford and Three Rivers have been moved to Tier 3 but the Health Secretary was clear in that the numbers have been increasing rapidly so action was needed. I know that this will be tough, particularly for hospitality venues that rely on Christmas trade, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that these businesses are supported.

“I am in regular contact with the Department for Health & Social Care and Director of Public Health and will continue to push for additional testing support and vaccinations as early in the new year as possible.”

Meanwhile Watford Mayor Peter Taylor said the rise in figures couldn’t be ignored.

He said: “Nobody wants to see Watford go into Tier 3. We’ve done all we can to bring down the figures but we’ve seen a rise that can’t be ignored. We now need to be sensible, pull together and play our part in reducing the figures. The rules are quite clear about what we can and can’t do so the most sensible thing is to stay in your household and support bubbles.”
