An 82-year-old woman from Gerrards Cross recently completed her 21st marathon.
A knee injury and surgery hasn’t stopped Anne Leigh from running, as she completed the virtual London Marathon around Gerrards Cross on Sunday, October 2.
She started running in her late 30s after taking on her first fun run and “loved the buzz” she experienced after finishing a race.
Anne joined Metros Running Club and over the years has run many marathons, including Man v Horse, in which runners race against horses over a mountainous course, and the Seven Sisters Marathon.
Anne said: “I was unsure whether to do it [the London Marathon] or not, but I’m glad I did. After all those years, I still get that buzz at the end of a race.
“I just slowly jogged/fast walked it. It took me about eight hours and my granddaughter Rachel and her partner Jill decided at the last minute to do it with me to keep me company. And along the way I was joined by my daughter-in-law and friends from a running and fitness group that I belong to.”
