This map shows bombed areas in Pinner during the Blitz in 1940-41.
Bombs fell at Pinner Hill, Pinner Park, and the area between Eastcote and Rayners Lane. Most destruction occurred at West Towers, Woodhall Avenue. Six people were killed in these incidents.
Frank Page, who lived in Pinner during the Blitz, recalled: “We soon learned to recognise the noises of the Blitz — the unsynchronised drone of the engines in German bombers, the strident bells of ambulances and fire engines, and the earth-shaking thump of bombs landing.
“When daylight came, we boys cycled round, gawping at shattered homes and collecting bits of shrapnel to take home as souvenirs.”
