Man jailed for breaching order In village

A Bricket Wood man, who confronted his partner in Abbots Langley telling he would “Do Her,” was jailed for 10 months recently. Peter Bateman, 52, was angry when his ex-wife Karen told him she had a new partner. Prosecutor Michael Speak told St Albans Crown Court that on November 29, 2015, Bateman encountered her in the village, which was in breach of a non-molestation order. Bateman, of Hunters Ride appeared by video link from Bedford jail having earlier pleaded guilty to breaching a non-molestation order. Defending, Bill Maley, said Bateman had never been physical to his former partner. He said he had been drinking too much and the offence had been “fuelled” by alcohol. “When he is sober, he is fine and a thoroughly pleasant person,” he said. He said Bateman felt “goaded” by Karen , who he had been with for 25 years, when she had told him she had a new partner. Jailing him, Recorder Patrick Fields said he had disregarded the court order and had behaved in a threatening manner.
