A 102-year-old Stanmore resident, who is a magician by trade, was thrilled to be awarded an MBE in this year’s New Year’s Honours List.

Henry Lewis MBE, who is a resident of Wolfson Assisted Living at Sandringham, Common Road, Stanmore, was the oldest person to receive honours on this year’s list.

He was given the accolade as honorary vice president of The Magic Circle, for his services to fundraising and charitable causes.

The respected resident rolled back the years when he amazed and delighted fellow residents at Sandringham earlier this year by performing a magic show.

Mr Lewis MBE told Jewish Care, which runs Sandringham: “When I was eight years old, I found a magic book in a pile of rubbish and that’s what got me interested in magic.

“I gave my first public show at the local town hall, and I’ve performed all over the world; Canada, Sweden, Demark, Israel and the USA; in large public theatres.”

Harrow Council leader, councillor Graham Henson, commended Mr Lewis MBE after he received the honour.
