A love token from Watford Museum has been named as the Hertfordshire Object of the Year.
Crafted by the skilled hands of local shoemaker William Longland, Longland’s Love Token is inscribed with the beaded initials of William and his beloved wife Bessie, and serves as a symbol of enduring affection.
Voting for the Hertfordshire Object of the Year closed last month, and the winner was announced at the annual Hertfordshire Museum Awards on February 15. The accolade both celebrates Watford Museum’s commitment to preserving local heritage and also highlights the significance of community involvement in safeguarding the town’s heritage.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “We are overjoyed that Watford Museum has received the honour of Hertfordshire Object of the Year 2024.
“This recognition underscores the importance of preserving and celebrating our local history, and I am grateful to the Watford community – without their support, this would not have been possible.”
