A planning application has been approved to extend the opening hours at a Northwood playing field, despite opposition from local residents.
The pitch, located on Maxwell Road, is owned by Northwood College for Girls (NCG). It will now be allowed to open from 9am to 9pm on Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm on Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Previously, it was open from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday.
The school has stated that the new opening hours, which are currently permitted on a 24-month basis, will allow them to rent out the playing field to various local sports clubs that wish to use the site after school hours.
However, several nearby residents were opposed to the extended hours, believing they would lead to traffic problems and increased noise. A petition with 25 signatures against the application was handed to Hillingdon Council, with 17 objections also lodged.
Despite this, the council’s Planning Committee decided to approve the extension temporarily, with five councillors voting for and one against. They concluded that noise levels would be low and would be monitored during the 24-month period.
NCG and Hillingdon Council have been contacted for comment.
