Members of the Pinner community have shared their tributes after it was announced that the former Mayor of Harrow, John Nickolay, had passed away aged 88.
On Tuesday, January 9, news spread that Mr Nickolay, who had been mayor from 2008 to 2009 and was a councillor for the Roxbourne and Pinner South Ward, had passed away.
Mr Nickolay played a huge role in the community, actively participating in the work of the council and attending more than 500 events.
Leader of Harrow Council councillor Paul Osborn said: “I was very saddened to learn of the death of former mayor, John Nickolay. John represented Roxbourne and Pinner South and was first elected to the council in 1964.
“My thoughts and prayers are with John’s wife, Joyce, who also served as a councillor, representing Rayners Lane for a number of years, and the rest of his family at this difficult time.”
One resident said: “He is survived by Joyce, also a former hard-working councillor and a good friend. Harrow Conservatives lost one of the good guys yesterday.
“John has gone to meet the God whom he loved so very much. He leaves an outstanding legacy of public service that neither I, nor the council, will ever forget.”
The community is raising money for Dementia UK in Mr Nickolay’s memory. To find out more, head to john-nickolay2.muchloved.com/
