PLAN PUBLISHED: Watford Conservatives launch plan for the town

Published on: 28th April 2021   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

Watford Conservatives published their plan for Watford this week, setting out key priorities that they believe will give the town an ambitious fresh start.

The plan outlines constructive ideas to make Watford a better place to live.

Watford Conservatives call for: “Close cooperation with Dean Russell MP, the County Council and the Police and Crime Commissioner” to make the town a better place to live.

On Thursday, May 6, Watford residents have the chance to vote in District/Borough, County, and Police & Crime Commissioner elections.

The report condemns the one-party rule of the Lib Dems in both Watford Borough and Three Rivers District Councils and their mistakes over decades that have led to this over-development crisis.

Watford Conservatives said: “You can sense the Lib Dems feel under pressure – the fact they refused to do the decent thing and suspend campaigning during lockdown and the mourning period for HRH Prince Philip, is a sign that they feel vulnerable. Given the mistakes, they are making with high-rise developments, stealth taxes on gardening, and various vanity projects throughout the area, this is hardly surprising.

“Watford’s planning incompetence is leading to disaster and needs to be stopped before it is too late. It is not good enough for the local Liberal Democrat administrations to just blame central government targets, allow inappropriate development and wash their hands of the consequences of their decisions. They cannot simply shirk their responsibilities this way. This ruse should be seen for what it really is: proof they are both incumbent and incompetent. They are in office but no longer in control.”

The group calls for a plan for Watford and the surrounding areas that focuses on making good use of brownfield sites to protect green belt and stop urban sprawl.

They said: “We need ‘joined-up thinking to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with development in order to protect our quality of life. We need better plans for Watford and the surrounding areas.”

Watford Conservatives say:

  • We need better town and district plans that conserve the character of Watford and the surrounding areas
  • We oppose high rise developments
  • We must prioritise the protection and expansion of our green spaces
  • Development must be well organised hand-in-hand with appropriate infrastructure
  • Our ambition must be to enhance the quality of life of all local residents.
