The Leader of Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has raised concerns over how the new Labour government’s housing figures may affect Abbots Langley and beyond.
Councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst, who also represents the Leavesden Ward, has told ABBOTSnews of the difficult position TRDC is in following the reintroduction of mandatory figures for the number of new homes to be built per year.
Cllr Giles-Medhurst said: “Our Draft Local Plan rejected the previous government target and officers will advise what we should do next, with members set to decide.
“The plan’s final draft received overwhelming support in a public consultation, with more than 1,000 respondents. It showed that 91.6 per cent of those people agreed with rejecting the government’s high housing target for Three Rivers and supported the lower figure we have proposed of 4,852.”
He also stated that the council is preparing to stand its ground.
Cllr Giles-Medhurst added: “We may not win, but if we do not stand up for what we think is right, what is our purpose?”
