‘LIVING LIST’: Friends start fundraiser to help Garston woman fulfil her dreams

A group of friends have set up a fundraising page for a friend and neighbour who has been battling secondary breast cancer for the last two years.

Helen Teresa Lock, aged 45 and mother of three, has undergone six courses of brutal chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other drug treatments in this time.

Unfortunately, the treatment has not been successful, and the decision has been made to move to palliative care.

Helen’s friends, Kelly Hallett, Genevieve Overy, Nicola Garrad and Lucy Moyle, have set up a fundraising page called “Help us make Helen’s ‘Living List’ happen”, with money donated being used to allow Helen to see out her dreams.

One of Helen’s dreams was to turn a small space of her garden into a Zen area so that she can continue to enjoy nature in comfort.

Speaking with Garston News at the end of August, Helen said: “I’ve ticked two things off so far, a holiday with the girls and my zen garden, of course, which has turned out even better than expected!

“The whole thing has blown me over, there are so many lovely people out there. Without the support I have had from all my friends that I feel so blessed to have, I have been finding the whole thing overwhelming.”

Helen described the support from the community as being like given “an extra lift in my life, helping me to carry on.”

At the beginning of September, Helen was off to Skegness on holiday with her children.

At the time of writing, more than £2,500 has been raised to help Helen realise her modest dreams.
