Little brothers from Hemel complete long walk for charity

Published on: 11th June 2019   |   By: News Desk   |   Category: Uncategorized

Two Hemel brothers completed their 32 mile walk to Great Ormond Street Hospital earlier this month and raised closed to £3,000 in the process.

Liam, 8 and Thomas, 10, were fantastic in the walk s and made their mum, Karen, emotional and proud of her sons.

Karen said: “The boys were amazing from start to finish and were actually better than us adults who joined them. We pulled together as a team and got through it and it was lovely to watch.”

Great Ormond Street Hospital have helped Liam since he was a child so walking there was very touching for Karen and her boys.

At a young age, Liam was diagnosed with duplex kidney, meaning he has three kidneys instead of two but one is dysfunctioning and the other suffers from reflux.

“At 24 miles we all hit the wall and we could have quite easily quit but seeing the boys push on and smash through that wall made me proud,” said Karen.

“Once we had got past that and got close to the hospital we started to see signs which our friends and family had put up which pushed us on. But as soon as the hospital was in sight, the boys ran and celebrated with everyone who was there waiting for us and I got really tearful. I just took a step back and watched them, it was amazing.”
