Litter heroes needed for Great British Spring Clean

Published on: 16th February 2018   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

Residents of Kings Langley are being urged to get out and about cleaning up their communities this month.

Dacorum Borough Council is backing the nationwide Great British Spring Clean campaign to get half a million people across the UK cleaning up their local communities throughout March.

The Great British Spring Clean is a campaign with a simple aim: to bring people across the country together to clear up the litter that blights the towns, villages, countryside and parks.

The council wants to inspire people to get outdoors, get active and help clear up the rubbish that lies around them. Join the growing army of #LitterHeroes who have had enough of other people’s litter and are willing to do something about it.

Dacorum is looking for litter heroes to help clear up this rubbish that blights the streets and parks.

Councillor Janice Marshall, portfolio holder for environmental sustainability and regulatory services, said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Great British Spring Clean and we encourage as many groups, individuals and organisations as possible to join in.

“Last year during the campaign we had a fantastic show of support throughout the borough, with more than 1,300 volunteers out litter-picking, collecting around 400 bags of rubbish. Let’s see if we can get even more people taking part this year.”

Dacorum Borough Council will be supporting groups and loaning litter-pick sticks and bags on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information on taking part in the campaign and setting up your own clean-up event this month, or joining a pre-arranged one, visit Dacorum Borough Council’s website.

Litter remains a huge problem across the country, causing harm to the environment and wildlife, with councils in England having to spend more than £700million on street cleaning services every year.
