A team of volunteers from local community groups recently took part in a “phenomenal canal clean-up” finishing in Hunton Bridge.
As Great Big Green Week drew to a close on Friday, June 14, the team from Sunnyside Rural Trust led the clean-up from Frogmore Paper Mill in Apsley all the way to Hunton Bridge.
Supported by Abbots Langley Transition Town Association and local charity Just1Bag2020, a team of volunteers walked the four-mile route and collected litter on their way.
Meanwhile, a dedicated group of community-minded helpers came to lend a hand at Hunton Bridge, bagging up more than 20 bags of dumped rubbish ready for loading onto the barge, under the boatmanship of Alex and Elena from Frogmore Paper Mill. Watford and Three Rivers Sustainability Fund helped to fund the barge.
Earlier in the week, a team from Sunnyside had prepared the ground by cutting miles of overgrown plants. Langleybury Cricket Club opened up their clubhouse for everyone to have a rest after a job well done.
