‘HEARTBROKEN’: Fundraising page set up to support Hunt family passes £100,000 target

A GoFundMe set up to support the family of the Bushey crossbow killings has passed its £100,000 target.

Horse Racing Broadcaster Matt Chapman, who created a GoFundMe with the blessing of the Hunt family together with Betway’s head of communications Chad Yeomans, has thanked people for their donations after reaching his target of raising £100,000.

Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of BBC 5 Live commentator John Hunt, and two of their daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were found injured at their home in the quiet cul-de-sac of Ashlyn Close in Bushey just after 7pm on Tuesday, July 9. Tragically, all three victims died shortly after at the scene. John had a third daughter with Carol, Amy.

Speaking on the fundraising page, Mr Chapman said of Carol, Hannah and Louise:

“They are the wife and children of much loved sports commentator John Hunt, widely seen as one of the most talented and nicest blokes you could meet. Also a true family man.

“Hunty has always oozed decency.”

Mr Chapman set up the fundraiser as a means of financially supporting John and Amy.

He said: “What we can do is raise as much money as possible for the Hunt family, in particular daughter Amy.

“On the back of the horror, I know John would so dearly love Amy to be able to get through life without any financial worries.

“If we can relieve any stress for the Hunts then why wouldn’t we all do so?

“This is a special family that has been left heartbroken. Please give anything you can to show them just how much we care and love them.”

After hitting the 100,000 mark, Mr Chapman took to X (Twitter) to thank those who donated.

He said: “To everyone who has dug so deep in such financially challenging times thank you. Every donation special. Over 2k individual donations.”
