Residents who have been campaigning for stricter enforcement of speed restrictions on a busy junction say assurances made to them by the county council have not been kept.
Despite having a 20mph speed limit, those who live close to the Heronsgate Road junction that meets Stag Lane and the M25 exit at Long Lane say cars are often driven recklessly and fast, despite being an area frequently used by pedestrians walking to school or the nearby pub.
After a campaign that included an article in CHORLEYWOODnews and a petition with more than 70 signatories, longstanding supporters of the effort to reduce speed on the road, Joy Turner and Jeremy Fern, were assured by Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) in May that the Highways team were set to install equipment to monitor the speed and volume of traffic on Heronsgate Road.
However, they now say that several months later, nothing of the sort has taken place.
In a letter sent to CHORLEYWOODnews, Mr Fern stated: “We had already reminded the highways team that our road directly feeds the M25 and that, partly as a consequence of this, we regularly see the 20mph limit being broken.
“Three months later, the monitoring exercise has not taken place “We’re now awaiting this operation. It is vital that the Highways Authority has accurate and current data, so that they can take effective action to enforce the existing 20mph limit.”
The campaigners also state that the current signage on the road indicating the speed limit is inadequate, and that they would ideally like to a camera and/or a solar-powered speed-registering sign to be installed on the road.
