Students from Beaumont School in St Albans were delighted to secure the top spot at the first-ever Regional First Lego League competition.
After months of programming, building and launching a Lego Mindstorm robot to complete tasks autonomously, students from across the region headed to the Institute of Engineering & Technology in Stevenage on Saturday, January 20.
The two teams from Beaumont School finished second and third in the robot matches, in which they were judged on values such as teamwork, inclusion and discovery.
The Year 9 team won the trophy for the best Robot Design and the Year 10/11 teams were triumphant overall, winning the Champions’ Trophy and qualifying for the National Finals in Harrogate next month.
Science teacher Dr Jones said: “I am extremely proud of all of the students who participated in the First Lego League and qualified for the National Finals. Their ingenuity, hard work and resilience have produced a fantastic result.”
