Players from a Radlett rugby club have completed an epic cycling challenge in honour of their late captain.
Seven players from Tabard Rugby Club, who play at Cobden Hill, cycled from Rotherham to Radlett to honour their captain and teammate, Cameron O’Connor. In the process, they raised more than £7,000 for charity.
Cameron sadly passed away in 2024 following a cancer diagnosis.
His teammates say that Cameron’s strength, grit and determination throughout his journey “were a true testament to the incredible man he was” and an inspiration for them to take on the 180-mile cycle challenge.
The route was chosen as Rotheram Titans was the first club Cameron played for on arrival from his native New Zealand in 2007.
A year later, he moved to Radlett, where he remained for the rest of his rugby career.
Neil Hopcroft, Aaron Priscott, Mitchell Ray, Jack Reilly, Scott Stoba, Max Templeman and Tom Woodhead took on the cycle challenge over the weekend of June 28 and 29.
They were supported by club president Ross Hopcroft, who provided roadside support in the Tabard minibus, while the Titans committee members gave the cyclists a great welcome before they set off on the long journey south.
Speaking to RADLETTnews, ex-player and club captain Scott said: “Cam gave a lot to the club, both as a player and coach. It was only fitting for us to honour his legacy and ensure he’s remembered for all his hard work and efforts.
“It was a tremendous effort by all involved to complete the challenge. Not only was it physically demanding, but mental toughness played its part.
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of people who have supported this worthy cause and honoured a great man.”
The team smashed their £2,500 fundraising target, having raised more than £7,100 for Orchid cancer charity at the time of writing. To donate, please visit
