The Virtual Theatre Orchestra (VTO) have released their latest video – conducted and orchestrated by an ex-student of St Clement Danes school (based in Chorleywood) – which features singer and actor Shanay Holmes.
Musical Director (MD) and founder Patrick Rufey contacted Shanay and asked her to take part in their latest video, where she sang Listen from Dreamgirls.
Speaking to ChorleywoodNews, Patrick said: “After doing a couple of Sondheim numbers we wanted to do something a little more soulful.
“Shanay and I go way back and so I approached her about doing a number with us, she suggested ‘Listen’ and we went with it.
“We are all really proud of that one! Shanay is a powerhouse of vocal talent, we were so lucky to work with her.”
the VTO was started during COVID-19, it’s a brand-new theatre orchestra, comprised of professional musicians all playing from their own houses.
He said: “With live entertainment decimated by social distancing, we have made it our mission to provide new professional content, showcasing some incredible artists and musicians to as many people as possible.
“My involvement as the MD and Founder came from my immense love of orchestral music in theatre, it tends to get overlooked these days in favour of cheaper backing tracks or orchestral reductions, but for me nothing beats a full pit during a show.
“I enjoy orchestrating and I have a studio currently not being used due to all the events being cancelled, so I thought why not start up online.”
