“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops,” wrote historian Henry Adams, and this sentiment perfectly embodies a former teacher at a Pinner school, whose influence is still felt across the community.
Jeanne Ransom celebrated her 100th birthday on Tuesday, January 20, and students from West Lodge Primary School have since been sharing stories of her inspiring work.
Friends and family gathered for a party, marking the remarkable milestone of a century of care, patience and purpose.
During her time at West Lodge, she taught reception classes throughout the 1970s and 1980s. She was the first teacher many pupils encountered in their school journey, and her warmth is still fondly remembered long after she left the classroom doors behind.
In 2021, her son Tim captured her legacy in a deeply personal way, creating a book filled with heartfelt comments from former pupils. This year, he has also created a video celebrating Jeanne’s life.
In a moving moment, Jeanne also revisited her old classroom a few years ago, meeting the current teacher and standing once again in the space where she had shaped so many small lives.
Messages from former pupils, friends, colleagues speak of Jeanne’s kindness, patience, and help in achieving academic success.
At 100, Jeanne Ransom is still teaching us something: kindness lasts a lifetime.
