Garston-born boxer Anthony Joshua OBE was comfortably beaten in five rounds by Daniel Dubois on Saturday, September 21, missing the chance to take the IBF heavyweight title.
After being put on the canvas in the opening round, Joshua struggled to recover and was easily beaten despite having the support of most of the 96,000-strong crowd at Wembley.
Having been heavily tipped as the favourite before the fight, Joshua was dropped multiple times by Dubois. From the start, it became a matter of when, not if, Dubois would retain his title.
Whilst Dubois was asking the crowd whether they were entertained, Joshua was anything but, in a performance that left questions over the 34-year-old boxer’s ability to compete for titles at this stage in his career.
Joshua suggested his boxing career is far from over after the damaging defeat, hinting that he has a rematch clause against Dubois that he wants to activate.
After the fight, he said: “I always say to myself I’m a fighter for life. You keep the dice rolling.”
