A St Albans-based care provider received the surprise of its life when Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp personally responded to one of their clients.
Abbots Care is an award-winning home care provider, offering support for those elderly and disabled individuals that require live-in care and visiting care services.
Carer David Read has worked for Abbots Care since 2019 and has formed a close bond with Liverpool FC superfan Neil, who lives with cerebral palsy which has led him to become visually impaired. Neil’s home is covered in the Reds memorabilia, and David, who has supported Neil for the last three years, makes sure he is tuned into the radio to hear about the scouse side’s latest success.
David wrote to Jürgen Klopp, the current Liverpool manager who is set to leave at the end of the season, on behalf of Neil sharing his admiration for the team. To their surprise, Jürgen personally responded, gifting Neil a signed picture.
Speaking to St Albans News, marketing executive Millie Leavold said: “David was amazed, he thought nothing would have come of it! He was really over the moon for Neil.”
The home care provider is currently running the Your Story Matters campaign, where they have been sharing the incredible work of their care workers and the personal support they offer to their clients. David was a finalist at the Leaders in Care Awards 2023, a reflection of the incredible work that the care workers at Abbots Care do, and the level of dedication they offer to the job.
Millie continued: “It is always great supporting our community to do amazing things that truly matter to the individual. Unfortunately, Neil is not happy with the news that Jürgen is leaving the club but he has this signed picture to cherish.
“But he reassured us that now they are such great friends, he will have a word with him!”
