KEMP PLACE: New Controlled Parking Zone introduced in Bushey

Published on: 11th February 2021   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

Hertsmere Borough Council have introduced new parking restrictions at Kemp Place in Bushey, meaning the area is now a controlled parking zone (CPZ).

The council’s website states: “CPZ schemes are used to deal with increasing parking and traffic-related problems experienced by residents and businesses. The main aim has been to discourage long-stay parking by non-residents and commuters in a specific area.”

Some residents have been in touch to express their concerns about the new restrictions, which have been in the pipeline for more than 18 months.

Kemp Place Residents Association chairman, Murray Lee said: “I have accepted it, I think many have, it’s the way of the world. Kemp Place Car Park was the last car park in the area that was free.

“The council believed people were using it for the station, but the station is a mile away. The problem is when you start a CPZ on one road, it throws the car over to the next roads.

“For me personally, it has cost me £65 for 2 permits and 20£ for parking vouchers. There isn’t enough parking in Kemp Place full stop. Will the controlled parking zone improve that or not – it’s too hard to say yet.”

Another Kemp Place resident told BusheyNews: “We are a two-car household and therefore have had to pay for one parking permit as we have to park one of our cars on the road.

“As we have paid for a parking permit we have had to also pay for visitors parking permits. However, if you do not need a parking permit you can get the visitors permits for free, I would like to find out why.”
