SLEEPY ADVENTURES: Stanmore resident to star in charity film raising money for the NHS

A Stanmore resident is set to feature in an 80-minute film aiming to raise money for NHS charities.

Karen Mann stars as Aunt Hilda in the film The Adventures of Sleepy the Magical Bear, based on the children’s books of David Rivers. She also voices a beaver called Knaws alongside Sylvester McCoy.

David explained that he came up with the idea to make a film to support the NHS during the pandemic, and received more than 800 applications from people wanting to be part of the film.

He said: “I was halfway through book 16 at the time; the pandemic was about to start with lockdowns. I wanted to do something through the Sleepy book to help the NHS.

“The reason for doing it was purely to help raise money for the NHS as they were struggling through the pandemic.”

The film is due to be released on Christmas Eve this year, with donations to support the NHS opening at the same time.

Ellie Orton OBE, chief executive of NHS Charities Together, said: “We are privileged to be linked to such a special feature film, produced during some of the hardest months of lockdown to create something truly magical.

“Thanks to the public’s generosity, we funded thousands of projects to support those at the frontline of the coronavirus crisis through our COVID-19 Urgent Appeal.

“With viewers’ help, we can continue to provide vital services and support for NHS staff, patients and volunteers across the UK.”
