JOIN IN: Berkhamsted Football Club to launch new women’s team for next season

Berkhamsted FC have announced that they will be introducing a women’s team from the beginning of the 2023/24 season.

The team will be entered into the Beds and Herts Women’s League, although which division won’t be decided until the end of June.

Leading the project is Tony Clarke, who is “crossing his fingers” for the top tier.

He said: “The men’s first team are doing tremendously well; we will have a youth team for midweek, and now the women’s.”

The women’s team will play on Sundays at 2pm.

Tony said: “A number of players from Bedmond Ladies are making the transition over to Berkhamsted. Our relationship is very, very good with Berkhamsted Raiders, so we’re hoping to get some of their players to join us. We want to blend youth with experience. We want to build a team for the future, not just next season.”

Chris Armond, chair of trustees at Berkhamsted Raiders, said: “We are delighted to be working with Berkhamsted FC as they start a new women’s team for next season. At Berkhamsted Raiders, we have had great success in developing girls’ football in recent years and are now one of the biggest clubs in the country for girls’ football. This initiative from Berkhamsted FC will provide an important, and exciting, pathway for our talented girls to continue their progression in football.”

Tony added: “There’s a lot of men in the women’s coaching scene, but we’re hoping to buck the trend and get more female coaches to join us.”

Coaches must possess at least a FA Level 1 Coaching Certificate.
