JAILED: Man sentenced following series of vehicle offences in Borehamwood

Published on: 14th January 2023   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

A man was jailed at Hatfield Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 11 following a series of motor vehicle offences in Borehamwood.

Stephen Keene, aged 31, was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment having pleaded guilty to:

  • Four counts of vehicle interference
  • Going equipped for theft
  • Theft from a motor vehicle
  • Obstruct / resist a constable in execution of duty

Police were contacted on Monday,  January 9 to reports of vehicle interferences in the Hillside Avenue area.

Officers attended and located Keene, of no fixed abode, nearby on Shenley Road, where he was arrested and subsequently charged.

Detective Sergeant Katie Stevens said: “I hope this result provides reassurance to the local community. I would like to ask residents, particularly on Hillside Avenue, to please check your vehicles and any dash cam, CCTV or doorbell footage to ensure they have not been targeted. If you have any concerns or if something seems suspicious, please contact me directly at Katie.Stevens@herts.police.uk.

“It may seem obvious, but ensuring your car is fully locked is an essential part of your vehicle’s safety. It can be easy to get distracted when exiting your vehicle, but it is so important to make sure the last thing you do before leaving your car unattended is lock it.

“Please make sure that all valuables are removed from inside the vehicle and that nothing is left on display. Even items such as sunglasses, coats and loose change can be enough to entice a criminal to break in.

“If you witness any suspicious activity around vehicles, or believe a crime may be in progress, always dial 999 straight away.”
