Watford FC have sacked Valérien Ismaël and named former England midfielder Tom Cleverley as interim manager.
The club took to X, explaining that Ismaël’s contract had been terminated following Watford’s loss to Coventry yesterday (Saturday, March 9). Counting Saturday’s result, the team has seen only one win of the last 10 league games.
The 47-year-old’s exit means that Watford FC must now find their 11th manager since 2018.
Meanwhile former Watford midfielder Cleverley, 34, will assume the position of interim manager. Cleverley had been coaching the U18 side since retiring from playing himself last year.
On March 9, a Watford FC spokesperson wrote on the club’s website: “The Hornets thank Valérien and his staff for their dedication and commitment, however the club’s Board considers it an appropriate time to make a change in order to improve results.
“Tom Cleverley’s staff will be confirmed in due course.”
