‘INVALUABLE EXPERIENCE’: Aldenham Students’ chemistry passion increases after competition

Published on: 29th January 2026   |   By: Naomi Greenaway   |   Category: Uncategorized

Together as a team and ready to face the competition, four students from Aldenham School in Elstree took on the brave role and did what needed to be done.

Ollie, Charlotte, Ben and James from across Year 9 and Year 10 were all selected to represent the school in the prestigious Top of the Bench chemistry competition as they showcased a strong mix of enthusiasm and expertise in the science.

On Wednesday, January 7, the Open University saw the team in action as they competed with other schools in a written paper and a practical laboratory challenge.

These tasks tested students’ chemical knowledge, problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively under pressure; many would have crumbled. Yet, for these students, the competition did not frighten them. Instead, it became a time of teamwork and focus.

The school has announced results will be shared soon, as it told RADLETTnews: “Regardless of the outcome, this experience has been invaluable in inspiring our young scientists and strengthening their passion for chemistry.”
