Hemel Hempstead photographer Sally Masson of Sally Masson Photography has gained international recognition by winning a significant award with the Guild of Photographers.

She is  thrilled to have been named International Top Ten Wedding Photographer of the Year in the Wedding category.

The Guild, a highly respected national photographic body, received over 16,000 entries to its Image of the Month Competition during 2020, from both photographers in the UK, as well as overseas.

Each image is scored, and the scores from the year are then totalled to determine who wins one of the Guild’s Top 10 Photographer awards or  becomes the Guild’s Photographer of the Year.

Sally was honoured to be awarded and speaking to HEMELnews, she said: “I’ve been a Member of The Guild of Photographers for nearly 10 years and hadn’t submitted images for Photographer of The Year for six years.

“The title run begins in January, the last submission is October,  and when I began last year I didn’t realise how tough a year it would be with COVID-19 arriving.  So many weddings were postponed or even cancelled.  I have worked so closely with couples, rescheduling and reassuring them that they would get their day albeit delayed, and when they do, there will be even more reason for celebration.

“Some determined couples pushed forward, we worked so hard to pack their shortened days and reduced capacity weddings with loads of fabulous memories, so I continued to submit.”

The Award was announced at a Virtual Awards ceremony on Saturday February 6 2021.

Steven and Lesley Thirsk, directors of the Guild said: “We are both proud and delighted that Sally has achieved this recognition after 12 months of submitting the highest quality images.

“The Guild has very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photography backgrounds, so Sally quite rightly should be delighted with their extraordinary achievement”.

Sally has also been granted membership of the ‘Photographers Bar’.

This is a unique distinction only awarded to those photographers who have successfully had images assessed by the Guild of Photographers over the course of a year.
