Behind every talented musician is a teacher who ignites a passion, and that is especially true of Michael Harvey, whose students came together to celebrate their beloved teacher on Sunday, July 13.
Michael specialises in preparing children for entering music schools and it’s no surprise that many of his students from across Pinner and the surrounding areas have gone on to study at The Purcell School for Young Musicians and The Royal College of Music.
One of his students, Anisa Ford, recently became a finalist on the Channel 4 show The Piano, where she stunned audiences with her musical skills.
Other students have dominated music festivals across the UK and globally, including Pinner resident Arwin who won a gold medal at the North London Festival in May for his performance of Gypsy Dance – one of Michael’s own compositions.
Anisa’s dad Nick called for students and families to nominate Michael as Classic FM’s Music Teacher of the Year award.
Arwin’s mum Lillian reached out to Pinnernews to share the legacy Michael has created.
She said: “We feel extremely lucky that Michael is carrying our children forward in their music journeys. Not only does he teach in an unlimited way that inspires the children to achieve the most with their natural ability and enhanced techniques, but he is also a caring and loving friend to them all.
“His passion towards teaching and humbleness towards himself have touched us all. He is extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to.”
