A headteacher from Garston feels “amazing” after completing the London Marathon on April 23.
Cheska Tyler, the head at Cherry Tree Primary School, smashed her £3,000 target and raised more than £5,500 in total.
The money will go towards the school and its parent teacher association (PTA), and Cheska hopes they will be able to use the funds to take the whole school on a trip to the seaside.
The schoolchildren took part in a mini-marathon on May 3, where each class ran one mile to raise extra funds for the cause.
She said: “I feel amazing. The support I’ve had from the school has been phenomenal. I did it in just under five hours.
“The money will go towards our school and PTA. We’re trying to decide where it will go, but the dream is to take the whole school on a trip to the seaside to see the sea. If not, we’ll buy something that’s lasting for the playground.
“The children at school have been helping me with their daily miles. We had a marathon day and the children came to school in running kits. The children made good luck cards, banners and medals for me to take on my way.
“The staff set up a running club, called the Cherry Chasers. Lots of them are new to running and can now run 5km.
“I grinned from ear to ear for the whole 26 miles and it didn’t feel hard because I knew how on board everyone was and how with me they were. I’m relieved the pressure is over, but I’m grateful I’ve done it. I’m excited to see how many children go on to do their own running challenge.”
