‘INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL’: Abbots Langley Rainbows leader runs marathon in memory of her late dad

The leader of 1st Abbots Langley Rainbows has taken on the London Marathon in memory of her father.

Amanda Lacey, 45, spoke to ABBOTSnews about her decision to run the marathon on Sunday, April 27, for her dad, Steve Sheppard, who passed away at Rennie Grove Peace Hospice in November 2015.

She said: “Dad was only 62 and losing him was sudden and devastating. The Peace Hospice was just amazing at a very difficult time. They cared for him in his final days and then continued to support our family through their grievance counselling services.

“I know the money I raise will help other families like mine who sadly may need the support of the charity. It is so important to have hospice services available in the local area.”

Amanda’s Rainbows group, aimed for girls aged four to seven, completed a sponsored walk in March to add to her marathon fundraiser.

She said: “They always amaze me at how they get stuck into anything that is asked of them and love a challenge. We explained the money would go to a local hospice charity which helps people when they are very poorly.”

The Rainbows raised an amazing £337.

Amanda added: “I was blown away, emotional and incredibly grateful to the girls and their families. It was such a fun afternoon at the park; they ran their mile with huge smiles and very quickly! Parents came to support and cheer them on. I will definitely remember it while running the marathon.”
