Promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Garston-born boxing superstar Anthony Joshua OBE could retire next year.
The 35-year-old former heavyweight champion hasn’t returned to the ring since suffering a knockout against Daniel Dubois in Wembley in September 2024.
He underwent surgery on his elbow in May this year, and it is expected his next fight could take place as early as September or October.
Rumours continue as to whether a fight between Joshua and fellow heavyweight champion Tyson Fury – who retired in January – is still on the cards.
Deontay Wilder has also been touted as a potential rival, after talks regarding a title clash began in 2018 but ultimately broke down.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Hearn said: “I think 2026 could be his last year in the sport… I mean, that’s three or four fights away. He can’t go on forever. But he’s motivated, physically feeling good now and ready for one last role to this incredible career.”
