Councillors and local volunteers have been busy adorning lamp posts with Poppies in Woodside and Stanborough areas of Garston over the past few weeks in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday on November 13.
County councillor Tim Williams stated: “It’s crucial that we remember the ultimate sacrifice that those who died gave for us, and we must never forget this.”
He added: “We’ve been doing lamp post poppies for the last five years and it’s getting bigger and better every year. I purchased, using a Council’s Locality budget, another 200 poppies this year that are now being put up. A huge thanks to all volunteers who help with doing this.”
Woodside Borough councillor Richard Wenham, who has also been putting up poppies, said: “We have a Remembrance Service occurring at the War Memorial on the High Rd, Leavesden, just in front of Dale Court, at 10.45am on Sunday, November 13. Residents are warmly invited to join us to pay their respects and remember all those who lost their lives.”
