The founder of a prostate cancer support group based in Chorleywood has been awarded the freedom of the parish.

A unanimous decision was made by Chorleywood Parish Council (CPC) members to recognise Bob Arthy for his role in setting up and running Friends of Prostate Sufferers (FOPS) after his own diagnosis of bladder cancer in 2008.

The council noted FOPS’ consistent good work for more than 10 years, stating: “Many local men [are] alive and well because of the work Mr Arthy had undertaken in highlighting the issue and both they and their families [have] benefitted from the support FOPS provided.”

FOPS posted on their Facebook page: “Bob Arthy’s work on setting up and running the FOPS over many years, and the benefit this has brought many men and their families has been recognised by the CPC. Bob points out that he regards the award for all those involved in running the FOPS over the years, including many highly valued people who are sadly no longer with us.”
