Amersham in Bloom has raised £4,240 in an online fundraiser that concluded on Saturday, January 11.
In collaboration with Amersham in Bloom and Amersham Town Council (ATC), a Christmas tree recycling scheme was implemented to raise money for the horticultural project.
For a donation of £6, the ATC depot team collected Christmas trees to then be converted into compost. The byproduct will be used to mulch trees and flowerbeds around Amersham.
The scheme raised £4,240 for this year’s Amersham in Bloom efforts. All donations will be reinvested into ATC’s wildflower and sustainability projects in 2025.
In a post on Facebook, ATC said: “We have lots of exciting projects coming over the next seven months, including the final phase of the comms box painting project, new displays, several school projects, plus many other initiatives to improve the local environment, all with sustainability and community in mind.”
Amersham in Bloom was recently awarded the RHS Gardening with Young People Award, recognising the group as a “trailblazing Britain in Bloom group”.
The award recognises the efforts of a group in supporting and inspiring younger members of the community to participate in gardening.
The report reads: “Gardening is a springboard for introducing young people to the wider aspects of caring for the environment.”
