Signs have been erected which state that Harrow Council is commencing work to restore and improve habitats on Stanmore Common this month.
The sign declares that “Stanmore Common is among London’s most important sites for these habitats and their wildlife”. It states that work to increase the area of the habitats started in the second week of January, and will last between three and four weeks.
Trees and shrubs may be removed or cut back in order to make space for the larger habitats. The work is aiming to build on similar works done in 2008 and 2013. Small scale woodland management will also take place to reduce holly in the area.
Footpaths are expected to mostly stay open whilst works take place, but the paths may be more muddy than usual.
The sign also says that Harrow Council is working with Friends of Stanmore Common and Harrow Nature Conservation Forum on the project.
Harrow Council has been contacted for comment.
