HOCKEY AT HABS: Resident sets up new club in Elstree to remedy ‘dearth’ of opportunities

Published on: 26th June 2024   |   By: Sophia Sheera   |   Category: Uncategorized

Hockey enthusiasts frustrated by a lack of opportunities to play in Stanmore and Edgware will be excited to hear of plans to set up a new team.

Having noticed “a dearth of opportunities to play hockey in areas like Bushey, Radlett, Stanmore, Edgware, Elstree and Borehamwood”, Vivek Gathani decided to take matters into his own hands.

Formerly a maths teacher at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree, Vivek’s new hockey club will be named after the prestigious school.

Vivek explained: “I used to play for the Old Boys’ side at Merchant Taylors’ School, but six of our players went to Haberdashers’ Boys. Sadly, there’s just nowhere closer for people who grew up near Habs to play.”

Thanks to Vivek, the Old Haberdashers’ Hockey Club will be able to make good use of top-end facilities at Haberdashers’ School. Ahead of its formal launch this year, Vivek has already registered his new side in the London North West League 6.

The club is open to all, regardless of ability or relation to Haberdashers’. To register your interest, email Vivek at vivek@trefoiltutors.co.uk
