HIT & RUN: Complaints of buses hitting cars on ‘congested’ Rickmansworth road

Published on: 6th November 2022   |   By: Bryn Holmes   |   Category: Uncategorized

Another Rickmansworth resident’s car was allegedly damaged by an Arriva bus that didn’t stop before driving away.

The resident got in touch following an article that appeared in RICKYnews’ September edition, which described how a bus hit Sam Avanzo Windett’s vehicle and then carried on its journey without stopping.

Mrs Windett is a resident of Church Lane, Mill End, and earlier this year another resident of the same road experienced a similar incident. Robert Thornton was shocked after discovering his parked car had been badly damaged. A neighbour left a note telling him that a bus had hit the vehicle and driven off without stopping.

Speaking to RICKYnews, Robert said: “There was no way he [the driver] didn’t know he’d hit it [the car].

“I’ve had other people on the road telling me they’ve had similar problems.

“I know there’s a school on Church Lane, and that causes congestion in the mornings and afternoons that makes it difficult for buses, but still.”

A spokesperson for Arriva said: “In regard to Church Lane, it is an extremely congested part of our route.

“However, to confirm, it is actually an extension to the route which we have included to ensure we better served a school in the area.

“We’re also continually ensuring our drivers receive regular route learning and are aware of the congestion issues in this particular area, to be mindful of whilst serving along the route.”
